Angkor Ultra Trail returns on Feb 4
The Angkor Ultra Trail, Cambodia’s most prestigious trail running competition, will return in Siem Reap on February 4.
This was announced by Edouard George, president of Phoenix Voyages, during a media conference at the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) headquarters in Phnom Penh. NOCC Secretary-General Vath Chamroeun also graced the briefing.
Phoenix Voyages is organising the event together with the Ministry of Tourism and NOCC.
“Cambodia is one of the best places to organise this kind of sports activities,” said George, who pointed out that he has visited more than 150 countries around the globe.
The Angkor Ultra Trail is one of the very few sports events where participants are allowed to run through and around the Angkor Wat temple complex, Cambodia’s most well-known tourist destination.
The nine categories for the race are the following: Angkor Ultra Trail (UTA 100), Bayon Trail (64-km), Marathon Trail (42-km), Jungle Trail (32-km), Temple Run (16-km), Nordic Walking (16-km without timing), Humanitarian Walk, Walk and Hike Without Timing and Elephant Trail (8-km).
The 2021 edition of the Angkor Ultra Trail was eventually cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Past participants have spoken well of the Angkor Ultra Trail in a series of testimonials published on the event website.
“I wanted to thank you again and your wonderful team of volunteers for this wonderful week spent at Siem Reap and the temples. Everything was well organised. I can’t wait to meet you again for new adventures,” runner Eric Molinier said.
The 2020 edition of the event, which was held just before the pandemic struck, drew 1,300 participants from 45 countries, including France, United Kingdom, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, United States, Italy, Germany, the Philippines, the Netherlands, China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
The first Angkor Ultra Trail was held in 2016.
