Elephant Valley Project, an ecotourism project to protect Cambodian elephants
According to a news release of Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in Cambodia, EVP is an ecotourism project with a mission to improve the health and welfare of captive elephants, conserve wild elephants’ natural habitat, and support local communities who work closely with these magnificent creatures.
Elephant Valley is a true elephant sanctuary in Cambodia based in Mondulkiri province. It provides veterinary care to eleven Asian elephants that roam freely in 1,500 hectares of forest, rivers, and grassland—their natural habitat.
The project also supports 2,000 local people, primarily Indigenous Bunong people, through employment, job-based training, community healthcare, education and supports land titling that secures legal ownership over their sacred forests (burial and spirit).
Elephant Valley is a long-time partner of the WCS. With additional support from the Ministry of Environment, the partnership helps protect the forests home to Cambodia’s last wild elephant populations. AKP-C.Nika
