The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, through the Apsara National Authority (ANA), has launched a call centre and Telegram channel for anybody wanting to take photographs or videos of the places in the Angkor Archaeological Park.

The launch of the new mechanism came after the authority received criticism for prohibiting visitors from filming inside the archaeological site.

ANA added that the introduction of a call centre and Telegram channel allows the public and organisations to access services like taking pictures and videos, through an efficient and quality online system.

The Telegram channel is named “Service Centre of Apsara Authority” and the contact phone number for the call centre is 014 222 599. After people request permission to take photos or videos, the authority issues an online permit to show the park officials.

ANA director of the service centre, Mot Dina, said yesterday that people can call the number for other services, such as requesting to build and renovate houses.

 
 
“Tourists can request through this new mechanism to take photos, shoot films and seek permission to use those images for promotional purposes,” he said.

Dina added that calls can be made to the number from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

ANA added that to avoid unintentional promotional mistakes caused by visitors that could affect the value of the ancient temples and World Heritage properties, they are required to apply to the authority for prior permission to take photographs and videos.

Long Kosal, ANA Spokesman, said the authority, as well as the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, have set up this system to improve some shortcomings of services at the park, especially regarding the request for taking photos in the Angkor Archaeological Park, and make the process easier.

“The authority will discuss with relevant parties and the private sector the new mechanism, and we will look for any other appropriate mechanisms to make requests run smoothly and effectively.”

In late September, ANA confirmed that the authorities did not prohibit the taking of photographs or videos for personal use or for tourists promoting Cambodia’s great attractions and cultural heritage.
