New tourism spot to be established in Tboung Khmum
A senior official of the Ministry of Environment announced the establishment of the Preah Theat Basrey temple as Tboung Khmum’s new tourism spot.
The temple is located in Preah Theat commune, Ou Raing Ov district, Tboung Khmum.
Eang Sophalleth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, said that as the chairman of the Oreang Ov district party working group, he will organize the 14-hectare area to become a natural tourist location.
He continued that the work will also include the planting of one million flowering plants, which will welcome tourists during the Khmer New Year. The temple area is an ancient worship place where kings used to come to pray.
“The location of Wat Preah Theat is called Tonle Sngout, which covers an area of 14 hectares in Ou Raing Ov district. It is also noted that this site is a historical site and can be transformed into a tourist destination,” said the secretary of state.
He noted that he wanted to transform and develop the area further by creating mazes and planting trees.
Sophalleth stated that the preparation to become a natural tourism area will strengthen the community’s livelihood through the development of ecotourism. At the same time, the team has set up the infrastructure at the flower plantation, which provides benefits such as important water storage areas for people to use for increasing agricultural production.
