New Year sees over two million tourists nationwide
With the country having controlled the spread of Covid-19, Cambodians and foreigners were able to celebrate the New Year and more than two million tourists were recorded in two days.
Minister of Tourism Thong Khon yesterday nights said that during the New Year’s Eve and New Year (December 31 to January 1), the country recorded a total of 2,022,920 tourists, including 2,006,117 nationals and 16,803 foreigners.
Major tourist destinations include:
Phnom Penh: 455,832 people
Sihanoukville: 338,552 people
Siem Reap: 337,769 people
Kampot: 330,659 people
Battambang: 158,110 people
Kep: 88,356 People
Tboung Khmum: 84,683 people
Kampong Cham: 76,901 people.
Minister Khon said that the above figure is an increase of 76.65 percent compared to the previous new year.
Capital, provincial and municipal administrations organized New Year celebrations, concerts, city decorations, lighting, countdowns, fireworks, and lantern shows to attract tourists.
