Phnom Prampi Cave in BB designated as natural heritage site
Phnom Prampi Cave located in Battambang province has been designated as a natural heritage site in an attempt to protect the natural ecosystems in the Kingdom for future generations.
A sub-decree issued by the caretaker Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the government has decided to designate 353.9 hectares of Phnom Prampi Cave located in Buor commune of Battambang province Phnom Proek district as a natural heritage site to protect its ecosystem for the benefit of future generations.
The decision to protect the ecosystem of the Phnom Prampi Cave is aimed at protecting the natural resources of the area for recreation, visitation, education and research with the participation of local communities as well as the public which will contribute to the management, protection and conservation of biodiversity, natural resources and local cultural heritage.
The Government has entrusted the Ministry of Environment to manage the Phnom Prampi Natural Heritage Site in collaboration with relevant ministries, institutions and Battambang Provincial Administration and ensure environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in accordance with the law in force.
Battambang provincial governor Sok Lou said yesterday that Phnom Prampi Cave is one of the famous tourist spots as well as protected areas in the province that has been put under strict conservation measures.
Lou added that the Battambang provincial authority welcomes the decision of the government to designate the area as a natural heritage site.
He also said that this status will attract more tourists to the place.
Ministry of Culture spokesman Long Buna Sereivuth said that government has given Phnom Prampi Cave the status of a natural heritage site as it is an integral part of the country’s culture heritage.
Battambang is home to several natural heritage sites, which include Prampi Mountain in Phnom Proek district; Teak Traing Mountain in Ratanak Mondul district and Kiriyong Mountain.
