Senior official emphasizes smoke-free tourism for Cambodia’s tourism sector excellence
Hor Sarun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism, on behalf of Dr Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, on August 11, attended the opening ceremony of the workshop on disseminating minimum standard operating procedures on “smoke-free environment in tourism sector” and guidelines on “smoke-free tourism city”.
On that occasion, Sarun said that building a smoke-free environment in tourism is to contribute to strengthening the excellence of Cambodia’s tourism sector and increase attractiveness by promoting well-being and preventing the effects of tobacco products on the health of citizens, tourism workers and tourists.
Sarun added that the implementation of the Guidelines on “Smoke-Free Tourism City” is another step in which cities / districts / khans have more opportunities to participate in tourism development as well as build its local reputation in the hearts of tourists as a “smoke-free tourist city” which provides comfort and well-being.
Taking this opportunity, Sarun also confirmed that the guidelines on “organizing a smoke-free tourist city” was implemented as a model and was remarkably successful in Kampot City, Kampot Province in early 2023.
Sarun emphasized that Kampot City was officially recognized by the Ministry of Tourism, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Southeast Asian Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA) and awarded the “Smoke-Free Tourism City” award after good implementation of the guideline and undergoing direct inspection and evaluation by the smoke-free environment team in the tourism sector in accordance with the indicators set out in the guidelines on the organization of smoke-free tourism city.
