Women’s Run 10k returns on March 8
The Women’s Run 10k, one of the most anticipated running competitions in the Kingdom, is set to return on March 8.
This was according to an announcement posted a few days ago on the Facebook page of the Cambodia Events Organizer.
Cambodia Events Organizer is behind the event together with the Ministry of Tourism; National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC); and Sovannaphum Life Assurance, a leading provider of life insurance products and services in Cambodia.
The event will mark the return of the event, which was sidelined last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a previous media conference, Sovannaphum Life Assurance CEO Tan Jiak Hiang said the event is primarily meant to celebrate Women’s Day.
“This is also meant to promote healthy living and to celebrate the achievements of Cambodian women in various fields,” he said. “Many Cambodian women have made significant achievements in the areas of business, government and other sectors.”
There are a couple of categories for the race: 10k and 4k. It is open to both men and women. But only women will receive finisher medals, according to the organisers.
The race will start and conclude at the Botumvotey Pagoda Park in Phnom Penh.
The first edition of the Women’s Run 10k was held in March 2020, a mere days after the outbreak of the pandemic.
There were more than 2,000 participants, mostly from the United States, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, South Korea, Netherlands, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Germany and other countries.
According to the organisers, more than 70 percent of participants were women.
“It was a very successful event. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed their participation, despite of the Covid-19 pandemic,” NOCC Secretary-General Vath Chamroeun said earlier.
The 2nd Women’s Run 10k is going to be held just two months before Cambodia’s hosting of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. The 2023 Cambodia Games is going to be staged from May 5 to 17.
Registration is ongoing and will end on February 2.
