The Ministry of Tourism is an official cabinet ministry of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia headed by the Minister of Tourism, H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, a distinguished politician loyal to the Cambodia People’s Party (CPP) organised under the excellent leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister. 


The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia has its pivotal role in managing and developing the tourism industry of the Kingdom of Cambodia.  Its functions include the formulation of programmes in compliance with national policies and to co-ordinate activities of various agencies including the Private Sector for the development and promotion of tourism in the country. The Ministry of Tourism also functions to supplement the efforts of the Royal Governments, catalysing private investment, strengthening promotional and marketing efforts and in providing trained manpower resources.


This Ministry has under its charge a joint public sector undertaking, namely the Cambodia Tourism Federation which harmonises various private sector industry stakeholders to coordinate and jointly enhance the quality of tourism in the country.

 

 

Duties of the Ministry include but are not exclusive to the following:

 

  • Formulate a national policy on tourism and a strategic tourist development plan
  • Encourage investments in tourism on the basis of the National Strategic Development Plan
  • Manage the Cambodian tourism industry
  • Improve all types of tourism services
  • Manage and maintain natural resorts, man-made resorts, tourist centres, and tourist developmental regions nationwide
  • Issue tourist business licenses to tourist vocational training schools and managing the affairs of tourist vocational training
  • Promote and marketing Cambodian tourism, both at home and overseas
  • Manage tourism publications and information and procuring corrections where necessary
  • Set up Cambodian tourism representative offices overseas, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and with institutions and organizations overseas
  • Pursue international cooperation to enhance the field of tourism.
  • Sign implementation contracts relating to tourism projects after guidelines set by the Royal Government of Cambodia

  • Issue tourist business licenses to tourism companies, tourism agencies, tour guides, hotels, casinos, restaurants, guesthouses, massage parlours, karaoke bars, bars, discotheques, resorts, tourism sports, means of tourism transport, and tourist exploitation services
  • Establish, improve and maintain standards and quality of the tourism industry and services
  • Grade hotels and restaurants nationwide
  • Regularly inspecting the tourism domain
  • Sign implementation contracts relating to tourism projects after guidelines set by the Royal Government of Cambodia
  • Issue tourist business licenses to tourism companies, tourism agencies, tour guides, hotels, casinos, restaurants, guesthouses, spa, massage parlours, karaoke bars, bars, discotheques, resorts, tourism sports, means of tourism transport, and tourist exploitation services

Cambodia welcomes all forms of legitimate foreign investments, especially on projects concerning the protection of culture and the environment in aid of enhancement in tourism of Cambodia. H.E. Dr Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism told a panel of national and international experts at business forum in Siem Reap that, “Conservation serves to boost development and development aids conservation.” In this connection, Cambodia, being where it strategically is located, has plenty to offer.

 

The department of tourism investment and tourism production are braced to facilitate and cooperate on investment projects. Keen investors are urged to visit the Kingdom of Cambodia for a better understanding of the diversity of potentials our country has to offer.
