German president’s visit paves way for ties boost, as trade tops $1.2B: pundits
German President, His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s official visit to Cambodia on 14th-16th February 2023 could give renewed impetus towards the consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries as well as to the two-way goods trade, which was valued at nearly $1.25 billion in 2022, expanding by almost one-fifth on a yearly basis.
Both sides have also explored new economy stargeties and strengthening politic ties, moreover the diplomatic relations between the two countries are flourishing and Cambodia has more opportunities to export its goods to EU through Germany such as garments, footwear and travel goods, bicycles, and agricultural products.
The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has introduced a new friendly investment climate to German investors in all sectors without any local partnership involvements.
On the tourism front, despite the less travel restrictions in the last quarter of 2022, Cambodia received 2.3 million international tourists an increase of 1,059% in which German tourists were accounted for nearly 25 thousands an increase of 2,675% compared to 2021 respectively and Cambodia was the only country in SouthEast Asia to reopen its borders completely to all international tourists in late 2021.
With Cambodian post COVID-19's tourism recovery initiatives are in place and the International Tourismus Borse (ITB Berlin) 2023 has officially announced its return for the every first since the pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia will be participating this great show once again along with 12 private companies including travel agencies, hoteliers as well as tourism investment projects to be held from 7-9 March, 2023 at Messe Berlin, Germany to attract more international tourists to visit Cambodia-The Kingdom of Wonder Feel the Warmth "Safe Clean and Green".
