Increase seen in tourist numbers as Cambodia celebrates Kan Ben
The country has gotten into the rhythm for Kan Ben and Pchum Ben celebrations, with more tourists recorded over the past weekend.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, tourists in the country numbered at 203,921 from 10 to 11 September. Of the number, 185,406 nationals and 18,515 foreigners.
The main tourist destinations in the country, include:
Preah Sihanouk with 27,594 people,
Kampot with 23,324 people,
Siem Reap with 23,169 people,
Battambang with 17,571 people,
Phnom Penh with 16,472 people,
Kep with 12,357 people,
Kampong Cham with 11,190 people, and
Kampong Speu with 10,957 people.
The Ministry noted that the figure was 0.63 higher than the previous weekend.
The latest forecast for 2022 shows that Cambodia is expected to receive 1.5 million to 2 million international tourists, according to tourism minister Thong Khon. The Minister of Tourism stated that in the period from January to August 2022, a total of 998,272 international tourists visited Cambodia, an increase of 720 percent compared to the same period last year.
