Int’l marathon held at Cambodia’s Angkor Wat
The 2023 Khmer Empire Marathon took place at the Angkor Archaeological Park here on Sunday, attracting more than 2,000 local and overseas runners.
Tourism Minister Thong Khon, also president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), said the annual event was designed to attract more tourists to the Angkor Park during the rainy season.
“Most of the overseas participants were Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese,” he told reporters, adding that there were four categories: full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), and a 10km race, as well as a 3km fun run.
Held in front of Angkor Wat, a key ancient temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park, the men’s full marathon was won by Vietnam’s Long Nguyen Van, who finished in two hours, 51 minutes and 13 seconds, while the women’s marathon was won by Duong Nguyen Thi, also of Vietnam, who crossed the line in 3:21:34.
